Naming Conventions
This is a brief on naming conventions inside of HubSpot, from workflows, lists, marketing elements, and more!
Overview
TL;DR
- LP - Landing page
- TY - Thank you page
- List - Used to label the beginning of a list name
- System, Internal, External - Used for naming workflows based on priority
For example, a landing page might be, “LP: Campaign Name - Ebook Download”
Workflows
Workflows are where the above naming differs into three general categories, System based, Internal communication, or External communication. These are meant to be in a tiered system based upon the actions in the workflow:
- External
- Internal
- System
💡 System workflows are for workflows just updating properties.
Internal workflows are for workflows containing items like internal email notifications, slack notifications, etc.
External workflows contain any messaging that’s prospect or client-facing.
So, what do I do if I have a workflow containing all three? Keep in mind this is meant to be tiered, so if you have an external workflow that’s both notifying sales and sending emails externally, this would be prefaced by “External: “. You can then take the above methodology into play. So, for the example of the Ebook Download above, the workflow delivering that would be, “External: Ebook Name Delivery”
Lists
I encourage all HubSpot users to implement and maintain the following lists:
- Label each list starting with List -, e.x., “List - Webinar Name - Registrants”
- Lifecycle lists.
- Buyer persona list.
- Engagement list.
- Email health list.
- Behavior list.
